I’ve always liked April Fool’s Day, but it really got turned up a notch for me during Covid. While my kids were distant learning, I was searching up ways to play tricks on them. Thankfully, my husband was working from home to help me pull off my favorite one to date. He was NOT on board when I told him what I had planned. I got that look from him that said, “why?” and “really?” all at the same time. Luckily he got on board and these are some of our most favorite videos of all time.
Just make some chocolate pudding (or better yet just buy the Snack Packs at the store, you don't need much) and then stage yourself in the bathroom. Tell whoever you are pranking that you need them to bring you some toilet paper. When they do, wipe some chocolate pudding on their hand and see their reaction. As if that isn’t hilarious enough, I also loved my kids’ sweet reactions. Their surprise and then being totally grossed out, but quickly forgiving to their dad.

After the hilarity of the poop wipe April Fool’s Day, I knew I had to come up with something great the next year too. One of my best girlfriends in California came up with the next plan and together we executed it to continue to prank my kiddos. She had purchased the dried mini bananas from Trader Joe’s and noticed their unique shape. She designed a fake label for “Organic Dried Dolphin Penis” and we put it on a bag. She nailed it. Every detail was believable. When I picked up my youngest and some friends from school, it was time. I tried to casually offer up a snack. They were so grossed out, but also totally believed it! Why wouldn’t they?! Who would make up Dried Dolphin Penis snacks?! I have had some misses over the years too. I ordered a giant make your own tattoo of my kids' photo and put it on my husband so they thought he got a giant back tat of their faces. We went all in too, about a week before I would pat my husband on the back and he’d wince in front of the kids and I’d say something like, “oh yeah I forgot” quietly or “how is it healing?” and if they asked what we were talking about, we’d brush it off. Then on April Fool’s Day we told the boys we had something to tell them, Dad had done something to signify how much he loved them and wanted them with him all the time. Then the big reveal! I think between how huge the tattoo was, and the fact that our boys have worn a zillion fake tattoos in their life, the gig was up pretty quick. Actually the funniest part was my husband was stuck with this HUGE tattoo on his back for awhile. It also didn’t come off without some pain and a lot of coconut oil. No wonder he isn’t always so excited about my plans…
