Beach Read (said like Bitch Please)

I think every season and location is a good time for a relaxed, fun book, but we all know them best as “beach reads”. Let’s get prepped for our upcoming summer vacations with a few new recommendations from the Babble Panel.

I recently discovered author Emily Henry. All of her books are great beach reads- love story, but not cheesy, fun characters and interesting settings. Just the right amount of “Hallmark movie” with a touch of “Magic Mike” to keep it interesting. - Erika

She is part online blogger, part comedian, part recovering alcoholic. It’s an easy read and she makes me laugh.- Tiffany

Sean has the BEST drinking stories of anyone I know and he put all of these true stories in a book finally. Each chapter is a place he cannot return to, usually because the people who live or work there warned him to never return. Prepare to laugh! -Erin

This book made me laugh and cry. It’s beautifully written and has a hopeful ending. Perfect! - Marina

I just loved it from the 1st page. How she intertwined an entire book and specifically a love story around 1 date on the calendar was so cool and kept me reading more than I had in a long time. -Anissa

I’d read anything at the beach. I freaking love books. The escape, the beauty, the language, the possibility. This isn’t a traditional light beach read, but I recently read Looking for Alaska by John Green and got swept away. It’s a YA novel and contemporary coming of age story about kids at a Florida boarding school exploring self, friendship, love, and the meaning of life. It made me long for the time when all I had was time to ponder who I was and wanted to become, push boundaries and take risks, and feel deeply connected to friends. So good. - Meghan

Every time I go to the airport I hit the book section! This one I read awhile ago but I may just read it again now that I’m talking about it. I mean the title alone caught my eye but the story is just as good. Set in London, three friends work together at ‘The Londoner’, a glossy fashion magazine and meet up every month for an evening of cocktails and gossip. However, each has a secret they keep from the others but when a childhood acquaintance shows up one night, the walls begin to slowly crumble. This was a page turner for sure! - Jamie (bonus she was the only one with a hard copy of her book!)

Now this is a beach read from the actress Robinne Lee! Rumor is it’s a fan-fiction book about Harry Styles, and I’m not ashamed to say, I fully pictured him the entire time I was reading it. A friend on FB had recommended it and I dove right in. It’s about a mom taking her daughter to a boy band concert to bond with her daughter, but the unexpected happens when she makes a connection with one of the much younger band members herself. It will have your pages flipping! -Brooke

It is an easy fun read and is a great way to approach life. It has humor and wit and great storytelling. -Kelly

I recently read In Five Years in a single session (3 relaxing hours on the beach). It’s an easy ready about love and friendship set in NYC and LA bringing me back to all of my favorite spots in the city! -Stacy

I told my friend Romy she really needs to learn how to read a trashy, beach read, because this book sounds intense, but also really, really good. Based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Lisa Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong.
