Italian Chopped Salad Sandwich

Apparently this sandwich recipe went viral on TikTok and now it's going viral at my house! My mom and I gave it a go for lunch and I'm not exaggerating, I think this may just be the best sandwich I've ever eaten. You can do different variations of the chopped salad sandwich (which I intend to), and you could also enjoy this just as a salad and not a sandwich (which I also intend to), but below is the recipe we used and all loved. Get to chopping friends!

Italian Chopped Salad Sandwich

  • 6 Italian sub rolls

  • Genoa salami ~8 oz.

  • Pepperoni ~3 oz.

  • Sliced deli ham ~6 slices

  • Provolone cheese ~6 slices

  • 1/2 C. sliced pepperoncinis

  • 1/2 Onion- red or white

  • 1/2 C. chopped tomatoes

  • 2 C. chopped green lettuce (we used romaine, but iceberg would be good too)

  • 2 Tbl. Red wine vinegar

  • 2 Tbl. Extra virgin olive oil

  • 1-1 1/2 C. Mayonnaise

  • 1/2 tsp. Salt

  • 1 tsp. Black Pepper

  • 2 tsp. Oregano

Mix up the last six ingredients (red wine vinegar, EVOO, mayo, S&P and oregano) to make your dressing. Set aside.

Give a rough initial chop to your lettuce and other larger ingredients like your meats and cheese, and if you are using cherry tomatoes give them a slice so they don't roll all over. Then make a big ole pile of all of the ingredients (minus your dressing) on a cutting board. If you have a pizza rocker cutter (mezzaluna if you fancy)- this is the perfect tool to chop up this salad. This is the exact one I have, but for the same price, this is the one I want- they are both about $12 on Amazon. If you don't have one of those, you can still chop it up with a knife, it just won't be nearly as fun. Then just chop and chop until it is all mixed together well but stop before it's pulverized.

Put all that chopped goodness in a bowl and mix with your dressing. Toast your rolls, fill with your chopped salad fixings and girl you are ready for a knock your pants off sandwich and any picnic!

This recipe is super forgiving and versatile. Just use what you like and what you have in your fridge and give it a chop!

Glammy gives it a thumbs up!
