Kelly's Investigative Reporting on Lume Natural Deodorant

Why is Lume spamming my Google and Facebook ads? These algorithms know EVERYTHING!

A few years ago, I decided to switch to natural deodorant. Like most of us, I had been using a combo anti-perspirant/deodorant for years, and while I didn’t like what I was reading about some health risks, more importantly, I just didn’t like how I smelled if I did happen to sweat--It felt like my pits were taking out their pent up frustration in the form of being extra fragrant.

So I switched. And boy, was it ROUGH. I’m sure I tried 20 deodorants over the course of 12 months, and somehow managed to keep a boyfriend (now husband) despite some of my erroneous choices; now that we’re married he likes to bring up my “deodorant experimentation phase” as an example of how much he must really love me, because he stuck with me through that. He’s not wrong.

I found that a baking soda deodorant worked best for me. The problem with that was that it was very irritating to my skin. Over the course of a year however, I built up a tolerance to it, and have been happy with it ever since…

Until Lume wouldn’t leave me alone. Their constant ads had me feeling like their algorithm knew all my deep dark secrets. Do I have an issue? Am I nose blind? And why is Lume so aggressive in marketing it’s uses beyond pits?? I am NOT trying that….

Day 1: I am shocked by how smooth this is. No gritty baking soda here! I picked the Tangerine scent. Smells nice, but not overpowering. Worked well on a day spent indoors at work.

Day 2 (Waking up): Hmm, this doesn’t work as well over the span of 24 hours, but I’m married so who cares?

Day 3 (After a day out on the boat): I am ripe.

Day 4: Wore to a wedding with a sleeveless dark dress: Kept me fresh for about 6 hours, including some dancing, then I needed a reapply. Major plus: No white marks on my dress like what you get with a baking soda deodorant.

Verdict: A good deodorant to have in your natural deodorant arsenal. For day-to-day and especially days I’ll sweat, I’m sticking with my Schmits. But, Lume is a good alternative when a white deodorant doesn’t work, or if you are sensitive to baking soda and need a break.

As for Lume’s “other claims” I DID give them a try on a 90+ degree day when I had to wear a synthetic golf skirt the whole day. The results from this were good enough for me to recommend it based on that alone! It’s also a great “freshen up” deodorant for your work bag, too.
