Officer Gomez is the Teen Life Lifeline Every Parent Needs

It is SO hard keeping up with all of the technology our kids are tapping into these days. I could break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. I’ve joined all the apps to try to follow and monitor what my kids are up to, and do my best to keep an ear to the ground regarding the video games that they are into each week, but to be honest, they leave me in the dust. It’s just so overwhelming and ever changing.

One of the best resources I have found that helps keep me up-to-date in a very approachable and digestible way is Officer Gomez. Just this week I found myself forwarding a Facebook post by Officer Gomez to all of my girlfriends about the Omegle app. None of us had heard about it and now we are well aware of it and on the forefront of the conversations with our kids about the dangers of it, and also, not approving them to download it. Honestly without that information from Officer Gomez, I would not have thought about all of the potential dangers or things that the kids could be exposed to in this shock app (or even worse, I may not have even known about it). I may have very well approved them to download it in my ignorance. This is just one of many examples of the type of information you will learn from just simply following Officer Gomez on Facebook.

He shares honest information about bullying, drugs, sex trafficking, scams, TikTok challenges, sextortion, different apps focused on teens and general parenting advice. Most of this is not fun to read, but it is important. I would much rather not be in the dark about all the things my kids are facing and exposed to, and I feel so much more enlightened thanks to the work Officer Gomez is doing. Check him out on his YouTube channel and follow him on Facebook. As Officer Gomez says, “Happy parenting!”

A little more about Officer Gomez: Officer Gomez has been working with students as a school resource officer for 10 years in the Treasure Valley and surrounding area in Idaho. Gomez uses his time at the school to build relationships with students and learn their struggles so he can educate parents and staff on how to better serve the student population. He and his wife also take in at-risk youth into their home where they work on family and life building skills with the teens. Gomez is also a step-father of three grown boys and a grandfather of six.
