I'm bringing back a post from last year now that Bridgerton Season Three is live on Netflix and I find myself once again falling in love with all of the classical covers of so many favorite songs. Shondaland are masters of music, and below I am sharing some of my most favorite ways to keep this magic alive when I'm not enthralled in the series.
Now that I’ve spent every spare second of the weekend sneaking in as much Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix as possible, let’s talk about one of the many things that Shonda Rhimes and her team are doing so right. The music! They nailed it with Bridgerton and they just keep bringing it now in this prequel with the classical music pop song covers. Mmmmm Hmmmm. I love it!
It was post college for me when I found my love of background music when I’m working or writing, but I find lyrics too distracting. Enter classical music. I like it. I’ve listened to a lot of it, but things really got turned up a notch when my oldest son began dragging me along with whatever his latest musical interests were. He has always been really into music (listening, not necessarily creating) and I honestly think it was those awesome HBO Classical Baby DVDs that got him into this genre of music (parenting hack!). When he was five he and I became fans of the Salt Lake Pops Studio Orchestra whose goal is to change the culture of modern orchestra, and man did they for us! These people were making classical music SO COOL! Their concerts and themes were entertaining, even to a five year old and non-classical family.
During this time I discovered The Piano Guys. Their unconventional take on classical music really struck a chord with me (and again, I am not a musical person). They were known mostly for their videos, which are cool, and I found that I loved their music, especially when I’m working on a project that is taking all my focus.
Fast forward ten years and a zillion hours of listening to the Piano Guys later and they are still in constant rotation for me throughout my day, but now we have new musical favorites to intermix with them including both seasons of the Bridgerton soundtracks and as of today, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story too! Fun fact- every pop cover in Queen Charlotte pays homage to a Black artist’s song. As I type this I’m jamming to Beyonce’s Halo by instruments I’m not sophisticated enough to name, AND I LOVE IT!! Give it a try next time you are at work and see what you think. What do you have to lose?
My personal favs:
The Piano Guys: Classical Crossover
Bridgerton (Music from the Netflix Original Series), Season 1 and 2, Kris Bowers
Piano Tribute Players- basically all the fun songs in pretty, instrumental versions
