Last Day of School Celebrations to Kick Off Summer!

School's out for summer!! No more pencils, no more books!

How do you help your kids celebrate the last day of school? Do something fun to kick off the summer before you become a their full-time cruise ship director entertaining them all summer with camps and pool time and endless snacks. Here are some ideas from the Babble Panel.

My daughter wears the same outfit that she wore on the first day of school, on the last day of school, to see how much she’s grown. I’m not sure how much longer I can get her to

do this, but it is so fun to see how she’s changed. -Tiffany

We always do a countdown for the last week or so. Then on the last day, pictures of course, and I take them out for ice cream or cupcakes. Together we empty their backpacks and find so much joy in throwing everything away! Yay summer! -Meghan

Pre-plan a water balloon fight. Right before they get out of school fill up your balloons (obviously those giant bunches of quick fill water balloons are super easy), keep the biggest batch for yourself, wherever you are hiding, and then another bunch of water balloons somewhere they will easily see when they get home with an “Arm Yourself” sign. Let the games begin! (This is also great to do to your spouse while the kids are home for summer any day.) - Brooke

I wish I marked the occasion somehow because it’s a big milestone. An acknowledgement of the long year and the freedom that lies ahead. I like to celebrate with special breakfasts like my mom did for me. Maybe a card, a place setting and something nice. It doesn’t always happen though.- Robin

My best friend Megan had a pool growing up so I remember there was always a last day of school pool party at her house!- Jamie

Our school would host an outdoor grade "olympics" and bbq. It was fun, school sanctioned, but a parent could copy it in their backyard I'm sure!- Erin

Last year we did a camping in the yard sleepover for Reese, and we had a cocktail hour for adults (it turned into a party basically). It was a nice chance for parents to kick back and get to know each other. - Stacey

I usually try to be there when they get off the bus and take them to get some sort of treat- coffee, ice cream, etc. We have had neighbors who have done donuts on the last morning of school at the bus stop. -Anissa

Meet up in the park for picnic and games. -Tara

Every year my husband and I wake up the kids by blaring "School's Out" by Alice Cooper. It takes zero planning and effort so it really is a no-brainer. We grab our phones, and if we’re really feeling it, hook it up to a speaker and let it rip! It’s such a great song and it really gets everyone fired up for the last day! Sorry teachers!- Brooke
