Severance Season 2- Apple TV

I know so many people who have been anxiously awaiting the return of Severance to Apple TV. Starring Adam Scott, who's appearance seems remarkably different than Parks and Rec days, as an employee who has elected to have a procedure so he is unaware of what happens when he is at work and at home. Season 1 was pretty strong, season 2 has yet to impress me.

Streaming Sister Thoughts: Seriously, why does he look like Tig Navaro? I'm concerned about him and can't get past it. So far big decrease of Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette - who were standouts in Season 1.

Showtime

The Agency -Showtime

What a cast! Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodi Turner-Smith AND Richard Gere? This is a story of CIA spies and the crazy world we live in. Different identifications, pretending to be someone else for an extensive amount of time and what it takes to move back into your own self after your mission is over. It's a complex show - love, family, loyalty, lies and ambition. A serious watch, but a good one.

Streaming Sister Thoughts:  I've been intrigued by the subplot including Saura Lightfoot-Leon (newcomer also playing a pivotal role in American Primeval if you're watching that too) - she plays Danny, a newbie learning the way of taking on a mission for the CIA undercover. Intriguing. Keep an eye on her!

Netflix

This long awaited sequel finally dropped around Christmas, and so many of us were anxiously awaiting what the hell Seong Gi-hun was going to do and why he would want to get back into the games. While there are some lovable characters, it just doesn't feel the same as the original. Only 7 episodes long, it seems like it gave up a little too soon and dropped off in the middle. What happened?

Streaming Sister Thoughts: Didn't love the cliffhanger. Fun fact - I actually got in trouble as a room parent for my daughter's 5th grade Halloween party by wearing a squid game mask and playing squid games. Apparently the principal thought I was encouraging violence to children. I made a zillion of those damn cookies for them to try to get out with a fake needle and burnt myself so many times....

Ted Danson stars in this new show on Netflix (already picked up for Season 2) as a retired architect who takes on a new job as a private detective investigating a robbery at an assisted living center. Balancing widowhood, new relationships with his daughter and joining a community of peers - all sorts of things go wrong. Side note - this assisted living center looks amazing.

Streaming Sister Thoughts:  My husband laughed so hard at this show. It was shocking to me how much he enjoyed it. These days, we're looking for comedy everywhere.

Peacock

Eddie Redmayne in a TV series?!? Between the intro song and the overall feel of this show - I was loving it. Eddie plays an assassin for hire who's extreme talent makes him a high target for authorities. Having multiple personas to get the job done, while being a husband and father makes for the development of a very interesting character. Did I hear Season 2 is in works?

Streaming Sister Thoughts:  Is it wrong how much I am rooting for the assassin in this show? It is. But I can't stop, I don't want him caught!

Colin Firth stars in this based on a true story mini series about Pan Am Flight 103 tragic crash over the town of Lockerbie. If you have a fear of being in a plane crash, don't watch this - it was a graphic scene, and when the mother imagines how long her daughter may have been conscious while falling to the ground it was heartbreaking. This show focuses on a father's determination to get to the truth of what happened to his daughter's flight. Peacock also has a documentary on the topic that interviews real life Lockerbie citizens and family/friends of those lost.

Streaming Sister Thoughts:  I felt like a bit of a fool while watching this, I have NO recollection of this occurring. My husband looked at me as if I were crazy not to remember it. Apparently I was well sheltered by my parents :)

St. Denis Medical- NBC/Peacock

Okay a bit of a cheesy comedy filmed in the style of The Office, St. Denis Medical stars Wendi McLendon-Covey as the hospital administrator over quite a crew. Outstanding in our watch is the naivety of Mekki Leeper as new nurse Matt. His one line about Earnest Goes to Jail had my husband spit out his drink. If you're looking for a meaningful watch, this isn't it - but something to take your mind off the day - this could be it.

Streaming Sister Thoughts: David Alan Grier as the seasoned veteran at the hospital can't be left out. You miss The Office or Parks & Rec? This might just be it. Hoping the writing holds up.

This 4 part documentary series is amazing for all fans of Saturday Night Live. Each episode dives into an aspect of behind the scenes - trying out to be a cast member, the SNL writers room, the Cowbell skit, and season 11 - the weird year. I learned so much and enjoyed the interviews with all the former writers, cast members, hosts, musical guests and Loren Michael himself. I could've watched 100 more of these episodes.

Streaming Sister Thoughts: This documentary brings back so many memories of growing up and loving this show. You forget skits you used to love and to see those who brought it to life loving it with you is amazing.

Paramount +

Landman- Paramount+

One of the most talked about new shows. I mean EVERYONE has asked me if I've seen this. I think the most accurate quote I've heard about Landman actually came from Stephen King - "I sorta hate myself for liking this." Another banger cast - Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, John Hamm, Ali Larter, this is the story of how the "little guy" in the oil business plays the game. Brutal and terrifying at times, as well as hysterical dark humor, we got caught up in this one. A little dirty romance doesn't hurt either.

Streaming Sister Thoughts:  Can we all just bow down to Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph as the most unique mom/daughter duo TV has seen in a minute. Can there be a spin-off where they run a nursing home?

Max

The Pitt- Max

Each episode is one hour - 15 total - one shift at a Pittsburg hospital. Starring Noah Wyle, back in the ER again, as the oversight physician leading peers and interns in an overcrowded, understaffed and high-intensity hospital. Flashbacks of the COVID era hit hard while each hour brings another heartbreak and success. Such a unique cast of interns - so many dynamics at play. Can't wait to see where this shift takes us!

Streaming Sister Thoughts: Okay, so I never got into "Grey's", but I was a fan of "House" and an occasional "ER". The writing on this is spectacular and the executive producer has "ER" and "The West Wing" on their resume, not too shabby!

I know this one isn't new, but I don't think people gave it a chance. Colin Farrell stars as Oz Cobb (the Penguin) in a prequel-like fashion to Batman. He won an Emmy for this role, and he truly is unrecognizable in this. Seeing him in both as sympathetic and horrifying at the same time really underlies the character development. Not just for fans of Batman, which I'm really not (unless Robert Pattinson is involved), this is a stand alone show.

Streaming Sister Thoughts: Cristin Milloti was the outstanding performer for me in this one. She was CAPTIVATING in her role as Sofia Falcone. I'd watch an entire season just of her!

Shining Vale- Max (and Starz)

I don't know how I missed season one of this show, but I'm all caught up now. Marked as a horror show (don't be fooled - it's more of a comedy), it's about a family moving to a small town after infidelity and into a house where horrible things have happened. Starring Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear as husband and wife - I'm not sure I've laughed so hard at a couple on a show before this. I've never been a huge Courtney Cox fan, but this may have changed things for me. The cast is rounded out by a son and a daughter who are equally annoying and endearing, Judith Light as grandma with mental health needs, and Mira Sorvino as....well you'll have to figure this one out. Warning - there are some graphic scenes of death and blood, but the majority of this show is about a twisted family figuring out their new lives.

Streaming Sister Thoughts: Okay, TMI but who didn't LOVE Greg Kinnear when he hosted Talk Soup a million years ago? Just me? He KILLS this role, and it's good to see him back!
