My friend Romy concocted the best idea when she and her family with young kids had to travel over the holidays. It is so hard to maintain all of the traditions and manage all of the expectations of when and where the big man in red is going to be and what he is going to deliver when you also have to account for what will fit in an already overflowing suitcase.
Romy's family lives in Idaho, but was going to be in Alabama Christmas morning a few years ago. She wanted them to have a little Christmas in Birmingham and a little Christmas in Boise when they flew back, where Santa would be delivering their gifts. Here is where the brilliance and magic of Christmas (and a rad mom) comes in...
To make it all more believable, the kids got letters from Santa Christmas morning saying, "I looked all over the world for you two! I picked up a little something at each location while I was searching to give to you when I finally found you! Your gifts will be under your tree when you get home."
In their stockings in Birmingham were candies and treats from all over the world that had been purchased at World Market. Have you ever shopped their international food section? It's so much fun, especially around the holidays when they have the cutest treats and trinkets from so many different areas of the world. Romy's kids' stockings were filled with items from Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia, etc. So not only a fun and delicious Christmas morning, but mom bonus, also a little geography and cultural lesson too.
I love this creativity and would personally love to try all these treats from all over the world! You definitely wouldn't have to be traveling to use this cute idea with your kiddos either. Just a little note saying that he picked up treats from around the world on his way to your house. What a great way to make Christmas extra special, I knew I had to Babble about it. Thanks for sharing Romy!
