Valentine Love Notes

This is not a new idea, but it's a good idea. I found this inspiration during my Pinterest years when my boys were young and have mostly carried it through the last ten years or so. It's so simple, and so special.

The gist is that each day from February 1st to the 14th you leave a new note saying something you love about that person. The cute Pinterest way is to cut hearts out of construction paper in different colors and sizes and create this beautiful display of love notes on their bedroom door, but you can do this however it works for you. You'll see below that one year I just did sticky notes. Both were equally special...one was just cuter. :)

This doesn't just have to be for kids. The boys and I did hearts for my husband one year too! We sat down together and divvied them up. I loved seeing what they came up with as what they loved and appreciated most about their dad (and their handwriting).

It's a wonderful gift to let your kids, or husband, know you really see them and really appreciate so many different things about them. It also helps highlight their natural gifts and individual personality traits.

The real gift however, as cheesy as it may sound, you actually get to give yourself. In our crazy day-to-day run around lifestyles it is so nice to take a few minutes each day for two weeks to really concentrate on the things you love most about the people you love most. I find myself with a smile on my face as I close my eyes and envision the long lashes of my youngest, the giggly sense of humor of my oldest and the support and helpfulness of my husband and know that I am so very lucky. What a gift to remind ourselves of that each day for a couple of weeks.

Above is the year when we had just moved into our new house and sticky notes were as good as it got. I think that was also the year I realized that was truly all that mattered. I've also realized you don't outgrow this. Everyone, every age, always.

So our Valentine love note tradition just got a lot more cute this year! We realized everyone had love notes on their doors except of course, our dog Tango.

I quickly cut out some hearts, divvied them up, and everyone wrote little notes about what we love most about him and we decorated around his dog door. It was such a great exercise in love and gratitude, and so fun hearing the creative things everyone loves most and appreciates about our family dog.

I love this idea of just "love bombing" someone in your house with love notes! It was so fun doing this together. I might just divvy up all of the hearts next year so everyone can join in the love and gratitude! Furry or otherwise. :)
