Wrong Shoe Theory

I'm probably late to the game, because that's what happens when you are 44, but we still got here, and for some reason I'm really stoked about this trend. Have you heard of "wrong shoe theory"? To put it simply, you choose the completely wrong shoe for your outfit. The more unexpected and incorrect the better! Forget traditional pairings, give your outfit a little more personality, or in some cases, more comfort.

My friend Maile and I had some fun scouring our closets and shoe racks to come up with some examples. It brought back all the Punky Brewster vibes we've been suppressing for decades!

Clearly our most favorite example of this (and what we had the most of already living in our closets) are both a tennis shoe or a combat boot with a dress or skirt. A chunky loafer is awesome for this look too.

Loafer or Combat boot with this dress? We honestly couldn't decide if we liked either.

The younger generation is pulling off a lot of ballet flats with cargo pants or heels, which I do think looks cool. Tennis shoes and cargo are also always a hit.

Longer or baggy shorts = heels or loafers.

We also got into fun "wrong" socks too (as pictured above). Not sure if that is part of this trend, or if we are starting it all on our own.

Or it could be as simple as mismatched prints.

While some pairings do just look effed up, it is fun to play with and think outside of your (shoe) box and really change the look and feel of your go-to outfits. The outfit above started out as almost a joke and ended up being one of our most favorites. Now I just want to be cool enough to wear it out in public. #goals

We coined this look "Rocker Grandma" and we are here for it.

Have fun getting a little funky with your footwear this fall and share with us your favorite "wrong shoe theory" examples!
